First Order Phase Transition in Intermediate Energy Heavy Ion Collisions

چکیده

We model the disassembly of an excited nuclear system formed as a result of a heavy ion collision. We find that, as the beam energy in central collisions in varied, the dissociating system crosses a liquid-gas coexistence curve, resulting in a first-order phase transition. Accessible experimental signatures are identified: a peak in specific heat, a power-law yield for composites, and a maximum in the second moment of the yield distribution. 25.70-z, 64.60.My Typeset using REVTEX

Experimental Signals of the First Phase Transition of Nuclear Matter

Vaporized and multifragmenting sources produced in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies are good candidates to investigate the phase diagram of nuclear matter. The properties of highly excited nuclear sources which undergo a simultaneous disassembly into particles are found to sign the presence of a gas phase. For heavy nuclear sources produced in the Fermi energy domain, which undergo...

Nonextensive relativistic nuclear and subnuclear equation of state

Following the basic prescriptions of the Tsallis’ nonextensive relativistic thermodynamics, we investigate the relevance of nonextensive statistical effects on the relativistic nuclear and subnuclear equation of state. In this framework, we study the first order phase transition from hadronic to quark-gluon plasma phase by requiring the Gibbs conditions on the global conservation of the electri...

Quark-Gluon Plasma Freeze-Out from a Supercooled State?

We consider time-scales of first-order deconfinement or chiral-symmetry restoring phase transition in high energy heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. Recently it was shown that the system must supercool below Tc before the nucleation of hadronic bubbles is sufficiently rapid to overcome the expansion rate. It is shown here that the expected time-scales of high energy heavy ion reacti...

Jet Quenching at Rhic

We present high transverse momentum (p T) measurements made at the Relativis-tic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) for Au+Au, d+Au, and p+p collisions at √ s N N = 200 GeV, as well as for Au+Au collisions at √ s N N = 62 GeV. We observe a suppression in the yield of high p T hadrons measured in central Au+Au collisions, relative to the yield in p+p collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucl...

Chiral phase transition in relativistic heavy-ion collisions revisited: toward a description of weak magnetic fields effects

Chiral phase transition in relativistic heavy-ion collisions revisited: toward a description of weak magnetic fields effects Revista Mexicana de Física, It has recently been pointed out that in peripheral collisions of heavy nuclei at high energies, a sizable magnetic field is produced in the interaction region. This fact opens up the possibility to study the chiral phase transition in a quark ...
